Environment and Graphic Design

About

Here I am!

My studio’s philosophy:
• Random decisions don’t yield strong design.
• The client and I are on the same team.
• I am always serious about the job, but not myself.

…and always, always good typography.

My story in long form:
After a degree in film theory, and graduate school in graphic design, I began my career in Chicago advertising and marketing agencies. It proved to be great fun as a production artist, then art director, and designer, if a grueling bootcamp. I credit my calm under pressure and unforgivingly-meticulous eye to those years.

Serendipity sent me to the world of environmental design and wayfinding, and I instantly fell in love with creating compelling experiences, eloquent dimensional design, and spaces that tell stories. And in shifting my craft to environments, I gained an array of skills and techniques, learning from the collaboration with experts in architectural detail, lighting, a/v, artifact conservation, and fabrication. In hindsight, the trajectory from my academic and professional foundations in story telling and visual communication to environmental and exhibit design makes sense, not to mention a powerful foundation for my clients’ projects.

My creative approach is to find, and sometimes help refine, the narrative that the client wants to tell. Whether branding a space or developing an entire exhibit, I am able to create the most effective and powerful way to tell it. I work in a variety of physical spaces, from museums to galleries, corporate centers to academic institutions.

Ultimately, the goal is communicating clearly and with intent. This is what I strive to do with every project, and what I believe creates a lasting experience for every audience.

Also occupying my time, body, and brain: I especially like open-water swimming, cats, pockets, sweep rowing, other animals, scuba diving, house plants, making lists, and nutella. In an ever-changing order.
